One of the most comforting things that a struggling math learner can hear is “you’re missing a lot of foundational knowledge.”
… comforting? Why is that comforting? 😳
Because many struggling math learners just assume that they don’t have the brainpower for math – when in fact, all they’re missing is prerequisite knowledge.
Sure, not everyone can make big mental leaps in math, but it’s amazing the heights that students can reach if you just give them a properly scaffolded ladder to climb one step at a time. 🪜
